Summer Term 1
This half term our topic is 'Cornwall, our home'. We will be learning about Cornwall and thinking about what we like about our county. We will be learning about geographical features of Cornwall and thinking about why tourists like to visit.
In History we will be learning about the history of Cornwall and researching a significant historical person from our local area, Richard Trevithick.
Our literacy this half term will also be based around Cornwall. We will be learning how to write poems to celebrate the beauty of Cornwall. As well as poetry, we will write our own stories based in Cornwall. Finally, we will use all our research about Cornwall to write a poster for tourists persuading them to come to Cornwall.
In Art, we will be learning about the Cornish artist, John Dyer. We will attempt to recreate one of his paintings and then make our own based on Carn Brea.
This half term in Science we will be learning about habitats and the plants and animals that live in them. We will research a variety of habitats and learn why animals choose to live there. We will also be learning about food chains.
In RE we will be asking and answering 'Big Questions' about religion. This will involve lots of philosophical discussions.
We will be learning all about religious buildings in RE. We will research Christian places of worship, learning about the features within the building. After learning about Churches, we will compare them with Hindu places of worship. We also hope to arrange a visit to our local church to find out about these buildings first hand.
