Summer Term 2
Our topic this half term is journeys. We will be using maps to plot journeys around the world and considering what transport we might use. We will also learn about Richard Trevithick’s journey to Peru and link this to finding out about the Amazon Rainforest.
We are lucky enough to have the artist’s working with us this half term. They will teach us how to paint onto fabric, using our journeys topic as a stimulus.
In Science, we will be learning about how plants grow, what they need for survival and investigating what makes them thrive. We will also learn about plants and animals that live in the Amazon Rainforest.
We will be basing our writing on three stories that are about journeys. These stories are ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’, ‘Oi! Get off Our Train!’ and ‘The Snail and the Whale’. We will be writing diary entries, character descriptions, stories and a newspaper report about ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. Then we will move on to ‘Oi! Get Off our Train’ where we will write a persuasive piece about looking after the rainforest. We will also write some poetry based on the story. Finally we will write some letters pretending be a character from ‘The Snail and the Whale’.
In RE we will be learning about Hinduism around the world. We will learn about how and why Hindus worship and the gods they worship. Also we will learn about important Hindu stories and celebrations. Finally we will compare Hinduism with Christianity
