Summer Term 1
This half term our topic is called 'Cornwall is our home.'
In History we will be learning about Richard Trevithick. We shall find out who he was, why we remember him and what life was like when he was alive. We shall look at the puffing devil and compare and contrast it with transport today. Our geography work will be based around our local area and within Cornwall. Looking at maps of Cornwall and the local area and identifying key features on the maps, including human and physical features. we shall follow directions and plot features as we create our own maps of the local area.
For art and DT, we hope to look at the Newlyn artists, as well as Barbera Hepworth and have a go at creating our own sculptures.
In literacy, we shall link our writing to the cornwall theme and hope to create a postcard from Cornwall, write a booklet about Cornwall and listen to Cornish myths and legends. We hope to be able to write our own version of a story about a Cornish giant.
In Science we will be learning about plants. We will be identifying some common plants, and finding some of these around the school. We will also be looking at the structure of a plant. In the poly-tunnel the children will be growing fruit and vegetables.
In RE we will be looking at local festivals, local saints, and Celtic crosses as part of the curriculum Kernewek from the Cornwall Agreed syllabus.
