Nursery - Eric Carle 2

Welcome to Dragonfly Nursery. Our teacher is called Mrs Card and our nursery nurses are called Miss Murley, Miss Fifield, Mrs William and Mrs Osborne.

We foster a strong child-initiated, play-based focus within our Nursery, which offers a carefully planned curriculum that provides resources to enhance the holistic learning and development of children.

We follow the framework set out in the Early Years foundation Stage which sets the standards to ensure that children from birth to age five learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe.

We begin teaching Read, Write, Inc in Dragonfly Nursery when children are ready, usually beginning this in the Spring term.

RWI Yearly Mapping for Nursery

We believe very strongly that children should be given equal opportunity to learn and develop both indoors and outdoors. All children are free to use our indoor and outdoor learning areas, they particularly enjoy spending time in our adventure playground.

We offer flexible provision during term time for children from 3 to 4 years of age.

Children are entitled to 15 hours funded education the term after they are three. If required additional sessions can be booked at a rate of £12.00 per session.

We also offer the extended 30 hour entitlement.  Please contact us on 01209 713982 if you have any questions.

We offer a lunchtime provision from 11:45-12:15 at a cost of £2.00. Children are required to bring a packed lunch.

Session times

AM 08:45 - 11:45.

Lunch 11:45 - 12:15.

PM 12:15 - 15:15.

There are seven areas of learning which shape our education programme. The three initial areas, which provide a platform for all other learning, are known as the “prime areas.” These are:

  • Communication and Language
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical development

The three prime areas are strengthened and applied within four “specific areas”. These are:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

We aim for all our nursery children to have the right foundation for good future progress through school and a seamless transition into the reception year.

Each week, our children have the opportunity to spend 30 minutes in our hall enjoying some PE activities. These lessons help the children to improve balance, co-ordination and agility through the use of an Early Years scheme called Healthy Movers. Healthy Movers helps children build competency in physical literacy skills, but also improve social skills such as communication, listening and being part of a team.

Admissions Information

Waiting list

Admission to one of our nurseries is not dependent on applications received within a specific time frame. Parents/Carers can send an Expression of Interest form to the school at any time before they would like their child to attend and be placed on a waiting list. Parents/Carers will be contacted when the child is at the appropriate age, and we have availability.

If the child is eligible for immediate start when the interest is expressed, and we have the capacity to accommodate this, a mutual start date will be arranged.

Please click here for the Expression of interest for the admission to Nursery form. This will be automatically sent to our administration team once completed.

Preference Forms

If you are requesting sessions before your child starts nursery for the first time, or you are requesting a change of sessions, please complete our Preference Form. This will be automatically sent to our administration team once completed.
