Welcome to the Kingfisher class!

Our class is made up of 23 lovely year 2 children. Our teacher is Mrs Bandara and our teaching assistants are Miss Sheers and Mrs Barley. 

We follow the Blossom curriculum and make sure that the learning is enjoyable, fun and memorable. The children have daily access to continuous provision where they have the opportunity to lead their own learning in the afternoons. This gives the children time to develop their language, social skills and independence; and we see higher levels of engagement. In the afternoon, the children complete their topic learning in small groups with an adult. We enjoy outdoor learning time every Friday and particularly love gardening in the poly tunnel.

We love to keep fit and active. We run the Daily Mile every morning and complete various GoNoodle challenges throughout the week. We have P.E every Wednesday with a specialist sports coach. 

We are a very hard-working and creative class; and have really enjoyed this term's topic 'Digging Deep'. We have researched the fascinating life of Mary Anning and have been inspired to learn more about dinosaurs and fossils. 

In English, we have been focusing on extending our sentences with a variety of conjunctions. The children have written a fantastic rescue story and a dinosaur fact file. In Maths, we have been learning about fractions and how to tell the time, as well as practicing our Key Instant Recall Facts. (KIRFS)

 

Homework

Reading: Children bring home two books a week; a 'book bag book' on a Monday and the Read, Write, Inc book that they have been reading during the week on a Wednesday. These should be returned to school every Friday.

Times Table Rockstars: Children have their own login to practice their times tables at home and in school.

Spelling: Children receive their Read Write Inc progression sheet after each assessment. This will detail which sounds and words to work on at home.Every child has their own set of Read Write Inc cards to help them at home too!
